Production Manager (PM)
Also: PM · technical producer (corporate)
The production manager (PM) owns the practical execution of a show: budget, crew, vendors, schedule, logistics, and the thousand decisions between a signed deal and a packed truck. If the show is the what, the PM runs the how.
In practice
On tour, the PM advances every date, sets crew calls, routes trucks, and referees the daily collision between the rider and reality. In corporate production the PM (sometimes called technical producer) plays the same role against a client and venue instead of promoters.
The PM’s tools are unglamorous and decisive: the advance, the day sheet or production schedule, the budget tracker, and relationships with vendors and locals who answer at midnight. Authority follows the money and the schedule, and the PM holds both.
How you’ll hear it
"The venue wants the dock clear by 8 AM; take it to the PM, that is a money conversation."
