Socapex SL419 (19-pin) pinout
Socapex 19-Pin Pinout
The Socapex 19-pin multicable carries six circuits: hots on pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, matching neutrals on pins 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, grounds on pins 13 through 18 (one per circuit), and pin 19 unused. It is the standard way six lighting circuits travel in one cable.
| Pin | Signal | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 / 2 / 13 | Circuit 1 (H/N/G) | Hot, neutral, ground for circuit 1. |
| 3 / 4 / 14 | Circuit 2 (H/N/G) | Hot, neutral, ground for circuit 2. |
| 5 / 6 / 15 | Circuit 3 (H/N/G) | Hot, neutral, ground for circuit 3. |
| 7 / 8 / 16 | Circuit 4 (H/N/G) | Hot, neutral, ground for circuit 4. |
| 9 / 10 / 17 | Circuit 5 (H/N/G) | Hot, neutral, ground for circuit 5. |
| 11 / 12 / 18 | Circuit 6 (H/N/G) | Hot, neutral, ground for circuit 6. |
| 19 | Not used | Unused in the standard lighting assignment. |
What it’s used for
Soca is the lighting multicable: dimmer or relay rack to a truss break-out, six circuits per run. Break-ins gather six stage-pin or Edison circuits into the multipin; break-outs (spiders/fan-outs) split them back at the electric.
The physical insert arranges pins in concentric rings; the rows above group them by function. Every soca connector molds its pin numbers next to the contacts.
Wiring & termination notes
- Standard soca is rated for 6 circuits at 20 A; the copper is commonly 12 AWG. Verify circuit ampacity against the actual cable jacket rating before loading.
- A 208 V soca (two hots per circuit, used for moving-light power) is wired differently and must be labeled loudly; plugging a 120 V spider into a 208 V run kills equipment.
- Meter unknown looms circuit by circuit before energizing; a re-terminated soca with one swapped pair puts one fixture on another circuit’s neutral.
- Torque the insert screws and use the strain relief; soca ends live a hard life being dragged off truss.
Frequently asked questions
How many circuits does a Socapex cable carry?
Six circuits, each with hot, neutral, and ground: 18 conductors plus one unused pin in the 19-pin insert.
Are all Socapex cables 120 V?
No. The common assignment is six 120 V circuits, but 208 V soca (hot-hot circuits for movers) exists on many rigs and is physically identical from the outside. Labeling and metering are the only protection.
